Persistent Memory

Every project gets a .kognisant/context.md file that the AI reads on startup and updates after significant work. This is your project's persistent brain. Architecture decisions, naming conventions, recent tasks, and anything you want it to remember. On top of that, global skills stored in ~/.kognisant_core/skills/ carry knowledge across all your projects. Teach it a pattern once in Project A, and it's available in Project B automatically.

How it works

    On session start, Kognisant loads .kognisant/context.md from your project directory. This contains project-specific memory: architecture, patterns, decisions, recent work.

    Global skills in ~/.kognisant_core/skills/ are loaded alongside project context. These are reusable knowledge fragments that work across all projects.

    After significant work (file edits, agent runs, important decisions), context.md is automatically updated with new information.

  4. 4

    You can manually edit context.md at any time to correct, add, or remove information. You always control what it remembers.
